ENGINE NUMBERS (FOR IDENTIFICATION):
Six cylinder engines located stamped on a pad above the engine mount bosses on right hand side of engine. The engine serial number consists of a two letter code. The first indicates model application – ‘J’ for ‘LJ Torana’. The second indicates engine designation. The engine serial number starts at 1001 and runs in consecutive numerical sequence regardless of engine size. All LJ GTR XU-1 Toranas have the prefix ‘JP’ followed by the engine number. Some competition engine blocks are prefixed ‘Q;
BODY/CHASSIS NUMBERS (FOR IDENTIFICATION)
Located stamped onto a plate attached to the radiator panel assembly on the right hand side of the engine bay. The first five numbers of the 13 digits is the model number.
82911 – Two door six cylinder GTR sedan
The next letter is the series code: J for LJ Torana, The next two digits are a letter/number combination indicating the plant at which the vehicle was built:
H1-H5 – Brisbane
H5-H9 – Sydney
J1-J9 – Melbourne
L1-L5 – Adelaide
L6-L9 – Perth
The remaining five numbers in the vehicle serial number represent the sequence in which the vehicle was built at that particular plant.
SAFETY COMPLIANCE PLATE
Located attached to the right hand side of ledge under the engine hood. The plate is stamped with the following information: Australian design rule number, vehicle make, vehicle model name, month and year of manufacture, vehicle serial number and seating capacity.
BODY IDENTIFICATION PLATE:
Located attached to left hand radiator panel assembly. Number indicates the body serial number while the letter indicates the body. S-Sydney, A-Adelaide, B-Brisbane, M-Melbourne or P-Perth.
VEHICLE SERIAL NUMBER
Located stamped on left hand fender inner panel. The first two letters indicate the model series. ie ‘LC’, the vehicle serial number starts at 00001 at each body assembly plant and is followed by a letter representing the plant at which the body was built. S-Sydney, A-Adelaide, B-Brisbane, M-Melbourne or P-Perth. An asterisk denotes compliance with safety design rules
