ENGINE NUMBERS (FOR IDENTIFICATION):

  • Six cylinder engines: located stamped on a pad above the engine mount bosses on right hand side of engine
  • The engine serial number consists of a two letter code. The fist indicates model application – ‘C’ for ‘LC Torana’. The second indicates engine designation. The engine serial number starts at 1001 and runs in consecutive numerical sequence regardless of engine size. Some prefixes are:
  • LC GTR – ‘2600s’ followed by the engine number from Oct 1969  - June 1971, July 1971 – January 1972 ‘CF’ followed by the engine number
  • LC GTR XU-1 – ‘186X’ or ‘3100X’ followed by the engine number
  • LC GT XU-1 Bathurst – ‘CK’ followed by engine number, then the letter ‘X’

BODY/CHASIS NUMBERS (FOR IDENTIFICATION):

  • V.I.N. is located stamped onto a plate attached to the radiator panel assembly on the right hand side of the engine bay. The first five numbers of the 13 digits is the model number:
  • 82911 – Two door six cylinder GTR sedan
  • The next letter is the series code: C for LC Torana
  • The next two digits are a letter/number combination indicating the plant at which the vehicle was built:
    H1 – H5 – Brisbane
    H5 – H9 – Sydney
    J1 – J9 – Melbourne
    L1 – L5 – Adelaide
    L6 – L9 – Perth
  • The remaining five numbers in the vehicle serial number represent the sequence in which the vehicle was built at that particular plant

SAFETY COMPLIANCE PLATE:

  • Located attached to the right hand side of ledge under engine hood. The plate is stamped with the following information: Australian design rule number, vehicle make, vehicle model name, month and year of manufacture, vehicle serial number and seating capacity

BODY IDENTIFICATION PLATE:

  • Located attached to left hand radiator panel assembly. Number indicates the body serial number which the letter indicates the body plant. S – Sydney, A – Adelaide, B – Brisbane, M – Melbourne or P – Perth.

VECHICLE SERIAL NUMBER:

  • Located stamped on left hand fender inner panel. The first two letters indicated the model series. ie ‘LC’, the vehicle serial number starts at 00001 at each body assembly plant and is followed by a letter representing at which the body was built, S – Sydney, A – Adelaide, B – Brisbane, M – Melbourne or P – Perth. An asterisk denotes compliance with safety design rules

OTHER IDENTIFICATION MARKS:

  • GTR: Three slanted vertical louvres in front guard. Entire lower part of car and grille blacked out. Front and rear spoiler. ‘GTR XU-1’ decals
